No application, no interview, no minimum skill level. Join the Discord, pick an issue, and open a pull request. The first one is the hard one — after that it is just work.

Join the Discord
Introduce yourself in #intros. Say your year, your language, and what you have built — if anything. Zero experience is a fine answer.

Claim a good first issue
Every repo below has issues labelled good-first-issue. Comment on one to claim it. One issue at a time, so everyone gets a turn.

Open the pull request
Small, focused, and described. A moderator reviews it first, then it comes to the tech lead for merge.

Get merged, get counted
Merged PRs count toward your Hacktoberfest badge and move you up the weekly leaderboard. Reviews count too.
The Discord is the front door
Issue claims, review queues, meet links, and everyone else who is stuck on the same thing you are.
Questions people actually ask
Do I need to know how to code already?
You need to be able to write and run a program in one language. That is it. Documentation, tests, and accessibility fixes are real contributions and are where most people start.
How does the Hacktoberfest badge work?
Our repositories carry the hacktoberfest topic, so PRs merged into them during October count toward the official badge. Merge is at the maintainer's discretion — spam PRs are closed, not merged.
When is the weekly mentoring call?
Sundays, 8:00 PM IST, on Google Meet. The link is posted in Discord an hour before. Sessions are recorded when the topic allows.
How is the leaderboard scored?
25 points per merged PR, 10 per review left on someone else's PR, and a small bonus for first-time contributors. It resets to a fresh week every Monday; the all-time table is kept separately.
Can students from other colleges join?
The Discord is open to anyone. The leaderboard and badges are for SAGE University students, since that is who the community is funded to serve.
